Aging into Vintage
Aging into Vintage
Aging into Vintage is the title for the show which catalogs my experiences and works over the 25 years of my life. It is a folk art yet dadaist-inspired hybrid of arts, crafts, and design that explores the meaning behind growing up in East Tennessee Appalachia in scrapbook and mixed media forms. The goal for this series is to evoke a sense of nostalgia for places, people, and ideas in concrete and abstract forms. It emulates a sense of walking through my map of memories in a both intimately personal yet distant manner. The concept for this series of works is based on the idea in the resale market that anything older than 25 years is considered “vintage.” Having turned 25 after numerous once-in-a-lifetime events such as the COVID pandemic, 2008 recession, 9/11, and more; this series is a reflection of what it means to have lived through so much yet so little in the grand scheme.
